The Lower Owens River is about a four hour drive up 395. The LO is a tail-water fishery below Pleasant Valley Reservoir, 15 miles north of Bishop. This fertile water holds more fish per mile than any other section of the Owens drainage. The LO Wild Trout Area is a four-mile section of river set aside for barbless artificials and has a zero limit. This prolific brown trout fishery is open year round and is easily accessible by car and foot.
Winter flows are not difficult wading for any level of angler. Hatches are good to excellent all winter. February skies are mostly clear with daytime temperatures in the mid-50s. Nearby Bishop offers a variety of reasonable motels and eateries. The Creekside Inn is popular with our members, but there are plenty of other options.
