Midweek Meander 2014_03_19 Kern River with ½ day European Nymphing Class

When: Wednesday, March 19, 2014, From 8 am to about 6 pm

Description: Guy Jeans, owner and head guide of Kern River Fly Fishing, will be giving a half day class, about 4 hours, in the European nymphing styles most commonly used in competition.  The topics covered will include, leader construction and rigging, casting of these multi fly rigs, approaching the stream, working the assigned section of river for competition, indicators: not used, marking your line, or traditional.  The class will start at 8 am at Guy’s fly shop, then, proceed to the river just yards from the shop for on the water instruction.  At the end of the class, Guy will make a few recommendations for fishing spots, and send us to practice our newly learned skills.

Many of you may remember Guy Jeans from his presentation at our May 2009 meeting, and more recently, his many gifts to the Conservation Supper Auction and Supper Raffle over the last few years. Guy’s very informative website is http://www.kernriverflyfishing.com.

Cost: $75.00 per person / 5 people minimum.

As this trip has a minimum number of people, and a per person cost, advance sign up is required. We will ether book or cancel this trip on the 19th of February based on the number of signups and the minimum having been met. If you are interested, and can commit to this trip, please sign up as quickly as possible. UPDATE - We have booked this trip. Those who have not paid, please do so on line, as that option is now available. Also there is no maximum for this trip, Guy can handle as many as want to go.

Note on cost:  This is a special class that Guy only does for those participating in the interclub fishing competition, and only once per year.  To get this info through his fishing school, one would need to sign up for his 1 day Nymphing and Streamer Class at a cost of almost $400 per person. This class is truly an excellent value and goes to show what a good friend Guy is to this club.

Parking:            Park behind the fly shop, or on street.

Midweek Meander Coordinator – Clay Dodder

Trip Leader – Looking for a volunteer.  The trip leader on this trip will make sure everyone who is signed up, makes it to Guy’s Kern River Fly Shop, pays, and help to organize lunch for the group.  This could be a picnic, or lunch at a local restaurant, the group will decide.

Note on driving:  As the drive is over 2 hours, and almost 3, you may want to stay in a local hotel the night before, or leave at 5 am the morning of and consider spending the night after.  Doing it all in one day may be a bit much for many of us, and I don’t want to see anyone get into an accident on the way home.  I know one member is considering spending the night, to fish a second day.
